Jackson Hole’s hotel scene is having a busy year.
In May, the historic Snow King Resort became Trailborn Jackson Hole, a 195-room hotel just a 15-minute walk from the antler arches in Jackson Town Square. In addition to its central location and nearly unobstructed views of the East Gros Ventre Butte and Snow King Mountain, guests can enjoy an outdoor patio with a pool, cabanas and lounge chairs, a hot tub, a fire pit, and a restaurant.
As someone who visits the town several times a year, I was eager to see how Trailborn—the three-year-old hospitality brand rooted in adventure and the American outdoors—plans to distinguish its newest hotel in a market crowded with ranches and luxe stays in Jackson and nearby Teton Village.
The project took cues from Snow King Resort’s legacy and the town’s distinctly Western identity. “We studied the property’s history and the destination’s character and envisioned how we could celebrate the building’s heritage while creating a hotel that feels authentically connected to Jackson Hole,” Mike Weiss, the co-founder and co-CEO of Trailborn Hotels & Resorts and Castle Peak Holdings, tells Travel + Leisure.
The team, in collaboration with Vida Design and Dynia Architects, preserved the building’s exposed beams, natural wood features, high ceilings, and large windows. And they got rid of “design choices that didn’t fit,” such as white floors and plain walls, as Weiss explains. The goal, he says, was to “strip away what didn’t belong and celebrate what did.”
Now, the lobby is clad in dark greens, burgundys, and browns, while the addition of Jackson Hole–inspired artwork enhances the hotel’s sense of place. The theme continues throughout the property, including the Old Timer restaurant and the Alley-Oop game lounge—complete with a photo booth and a two-lane duckpin bowling alley—where art and memorabilia, such as an antler chandelier and framed fishing lures, were all selected with the destination in mind.
Meanwhile, the guest rooms, available in four categories (including a bunk room with two queen beds on the bottom and twin beds on top), are simple but well-outfitted with custom headboards, Grown Alchemist bath products, Parachute robes, and canvas bags for guests to use during their stay.
“We spent a lot of time thinking about the small touches that elevate a stay, and comfort was a big part of that,” shares Sean Johnston, Trailborn’s vice president of operations.
In the après-inspired Old Timer, skiers can refuel with hearty alpine dishes such as fondue or raclette poutine, while the charming Mountainside Bar & Café serves breakfast grab-and-go picks and lunch snacks. The hotel also hosts Trailborn’s signature Après Hour at 4 p.m every day, during which guests enjoy a complimentary drink.
While Trailborn Jackson Hole isn’t in the same price category as the swankier hotels in the valley, it does serve as the perfect base camp for outdoor-focused travelers. The Adventure Concierge can help plan fishing trips or wildlife tours of Grand Teton and Yellowstone. And guests can treat sore muscles and recover with massages and beauty treatments in Ember Lily Spa, located next door.
Jackson Hole’s hospitality scene has been buzzing with activity this year. The Hoback Club had its grand opening in January, followed by the debut of Faraway Jackson Hole, and the recent revamp of The Alpine House.
