When McDonald’s announced a limited-time Caesar menu, I nearly jumped for joy. It’s the kind of release that almost makes you wonder why it didn’t already exist. And starting July 21, it’ll be available at locations nationwide.
Alongside a dipping sauce inspired by the beloved salad dressing, McDonald’s is rolling out three menu items built around it: McCrispy Strips with Caesar Sauce for dipping, a Caesar Snack Wrap and a Bacon Caesar McCrispy sandwich.
Our editors tried the full Caesar lineup ahead of the launch to see how each item stacked up. Here’s our verdict.
Caesar Sauce
When your starting point is one of the greatest salad dressings of all time, the odds are already pretty good. And according to Delish editors, McDonald’s Caesar Sauce delivers.
The mayonnaise base creates a creamy foundation for dipping, but the Caesar-inspired ingredients still come through. The Parmesan is the first thing you notice, adding a savory backbone along with the actual chunks of grated cheese in each cup. The garlic is also key, bringing more umami without tasting sharp or overpowering.
But the flavor that catapults the sauce to another level is lemon. There’s a distinct, citrusy tang that brightens each bite. After recently tasting 41 store-bought Caesar dressings, I think McDonald’s version most closely resembles Kraft’s Classic Caesar, just with a little more acidity.
The limited-time sauce is especially good with McDonald’s updated McCrispy Strips. The chain reformulated the strips with panko breading for a crispier exterior, and the difference is obvious. When Assistant Social Media Editor Taylor Daly took a bite, I could hear the crunch from several feet away.
Add in the sauce, and the crispy, creamy, savory, and tangy combination makes it one of the best things we’ve tasted at McDonald’s in a long time.
Caesar Snack Wrap
If you want more than just chicken and sauce, try the Caesar Snack Wrap. It has the familiar Snack Wrap format—chicken, cheese, lettuce, and tortilla—but swaps ranch for the new Caesar Sauce.
The wrap still tastes familiar, but the lemon in the sauce makes the whole thing feel fresher. Contributing Writer Steven Morea agreed, noting that the Caesar adds more balance to each bite and shines through more than the ranch, which has a more muted flavor.
Bacon Caesar McCrispy
The most substantial item on the limited-time Caesar menu is the Bacon Caesar McCrispy. The sandwich includes a crispy chicken fillet, lettuce, tomato, pickles, bacon, crispy onions, and Caesar sauce on a potato bun. And if describing the sandwich is a mouthful, eating it is even more so.
Our editors found that the Caesar Sauce took a back seat once combined with the other components. Bacon is the dominant flavor, and everything else has to fight for dominance. Is it still a delicious bite? For sure. But it’s not the best showcase for the new sauce.
If you can only order one thing from the limited-time menu, we recommend the McCrispy Strips—and ask for a lot of extra Caesar sauce. And if any McDonald’s executives are reading, please don’t let this one disappear forever.
