A good perfume doesn’t have to be long-lasting, but a long-lasting perfume is always a good one. I love smelling good for myself, (though I’ll never say no to compliments!), and I don’t typically reapply my scents throughout the day. Obviously, this is when having a beast-mode scent pays off, but there’s other ways to make your perfume last longer, like layering similar-scented body lotions and oils. If you’re wearing a vanilla-forward scent, it’s as simple as pairing it with a vanilla body lotion and body oil.
You can also look for extraits and eau de parfums with more concentrated formulas than an eau de toilette or body mist. (An extrait has 20 to 40 percent fragrance oil, while a body mist is usually 1 to 5 percent.) Anything with “intense” in the name, like Valentino’s Donna Born in Roma Intense Eau de Parfum alludes to a longer-wearing, concentrated formula. While notes like oud, patchouli, and vetiver tend to be projectors and extra long-lasting.
In my growing collection of 165 perfumes, I know exactly which ones to reach for when I want an all-day scent experience. Shop my favorites, from $34, below.
Montale Paris Arabians Tonka Eau de Parfum
Anything Montale will have nuclear projection and lasting abilities upwards of 24 hours. Yeah, that long. I have multiple scents of theirs in my collection and this applies to all of them. Arabians Tonka features notes of bergamot, amber, and rose with a pretty, sensual type of scent profile. It’s captivating with an instant confidence boost that will make it hard to stay away.
Paris Corner Khair Felicity Perfume
Arabian perfume houses like Paris Corner always have long-lasting scents that not only perform, but project. Felicity is a sugary, champagne scent that lasts on the skin for hours and hours on end. It’s romantic and juicy, and definitely the kind of scent you can’t put down. One shopper writes it lasted “through a full 12-hour shift,” and explains they could still smell it on their clothes when they went to wash them “4 days later.”
Kilian Paris Her Majesty Eau de Parfum
Her Majesty falls within the chypre fragrance family, thanks to its defining notes of oakmoss, white peach, and rose. On first spritz the rose and peach create a juicy, spring-like element that’s really uplifting and pleasant, while the woody base balances that out and adds a modern touch. The projection and sillage are out of this world; I sprayed it on my skin and 8 hours later, it smelled like I had just spritzed it. A little goes a long way, especially if you want to wear it in an office setting. As PerfumeTok would say, it’s beast-mode.
Noyz Only Human Mylk de Parfum
This milky perfume is like a lightweight, concentrated lotion infused with hyaluronic acid that can be worn as perfume on its own or layered with scents. I went the layering route and it made both perfumes and body mists last on my skin for 10-plus hours. Only Human is a “skin-hugging gourmand,” per the brand, and features notes of pink pepper, vanilla, and cedarwood so it’s a delicious base for all my vanilla scents and less sugary gourmands. That said, it’s also gorgeous on its own when I’m craving something more intimate.
Belnu Chai Fleur Eau de Parfum
I thought I didn’t like chai—and then I smelled this and realized just how much I was missing out. Chai Fleur by Belnu features a warm, romantic element, thanks to notes like nutmeg and cardamom. It’s grounded by lavender, violet, and cistus for this creamy, fresh quality that’s really balanced and clean. It reminds me of opening the window on a spring day after a rain storm; the air is clean and dare I say, healing. Each scent is created with vegan ingredients, sans phthalates and parabens. I wear this scent to bed and wake up so refreshed when I can still smell it in its full glory come morning time.
Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb Pretty Peony Eau de Parfum
I swore by Flowerbomb in high school for its sweet scent trail and long-lasting performance and that’s the same reason why I still reach for it 10 years later. Pink Peony is a fruity-floral take on FlowerBomb with a strawberry accord that gives it a palpable, jammy sweetness. It lasts for hours on the skin, and even longer on your clothes.
Commodity Milk+ Bold Eau de Parfum with Marshmallow & Firewood
Each scent by Commodity comes in a personal, expressive, and bold iteration, starting off as close and intimate and working all the way up to projecting and long-lasting. Milk+ Bold is a decadent marshmallow-meets-warm-milk scent with some grounding resinous notes, like firewood and amber. It has a boozy aspect and gets warmer and more enticing the longer it settles on your skin, which is upwards of 12 hours—easily.
