Between the heat and humidity, getting dressed in the summer can be a struggle, especially when I know I’m going to sweat through whatever I put on. That’s why I practically live in tops with built-in bras this time of year. They eliminate one extra layer, keep underwire far, far away from me, and a lot of them are made from sweat-wicking fabrics. If you grew up in the early 2000s, think of them as the grown-up version of the Limited Too bra camis.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say they offer the most support, but for me, they provide enough coverage that I don’t feel like I’m scandalizing everyone around me by skipping a traditional bra. They’ve also come a long way from basic scoopneck tanks and spaghetti strap silhouettes. This tank has become a staple in my closet. I throw it on with everything from jeans to sweatpants, and it somehow always works. While it’s not the most supportive built-in bra top since there aren’t molded cups, it more than makes up for it in comfort. Right now, it’s only available in white and gray, though I’m hoping more colors are on the way.
Offline By Aerie Real Me Low-Key Tank Top
A little more Sporty Spice than the ribbed option above, this tank is made from Aerie’s buttery-soft Real Me fabric. It has built-in cups for a little extra support, but it doesn’t scream activewear. The sweat-wicking fabric keeps me cool on hot days, and it comes in a range of colors with matching leggings and shorts if you’re into a coordinated set.
Abercrombie Bra-Free Strapless Set Top
This strapless tube top is easily the dressiest option on this list. I love it paired with the brand’s matching pleated skirt, but it looks just as good with jeans or linen pants. The built-in bra is completely seamless, so you don’t have to worry about it peeking through, and the removable pads add extra coverage without feeling bulky.
Aritzia Golden Life Blaze Halter Sports Top
This is one of those tops no one would guess is activewear. Wear your hair down, and the tiny logo on the back disappears, so it looks just like a regular halter. The sweat-wicking fabric is a lifesaver on hot nights (or, heaven forbid, if someone spills a drink on you). Plus, the removable cups offer enough support that I never feel like I need a bra underneath.
Intimissimi Eri Bra Top
Lingerie is meant to be worn outside, right? At least that’s what I tell myself. This cami is soft, comfortable, and comes with lightly padded cups, so you can wear it on its own without a second thought. It’s definitely more form-fitting, but I like the black option because it hides sweat surprisingly well. The adjustable straps also make it easy to customize the fit.
