EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Most people come back from a vacation with photos, souvenirs and some memories.
But one Rhode Island couple also received the surprise of a lifetime.
Lauren Siwinski and Gary Glenn arrived in the Tampa Bay area earlier this week to visit some friends before going on a cruise.
According to HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, the couple went to the emergency room when Siwinski started experiencing severe abdominal pain.
It was there, the hospital said, that she found out she was not only pregnant, but going into labor.
“Neither parent knew they were expecting. She had been on birth control and had experienced no signs of pregnancy,” the hospital wrote in a Facebook post.
Hours later, they welcomed their first child, a healthy baby boy named Sebastian.
The couple said it came as a “total shock.”
“You’re like, ‘What are you talking about?’ Like, this isn’t real,” Glenn recalled. “And so the first thing I said to her after he left … I said, ‘I love you’ and then I said, ‘You’re going to be OK.'”
“I had no symptoms at all. Nothing whatsoever,” Siwinski said. “I had no idea there was a human inside of me.”
Sebastian’s grandmother flew down to meet her first grandchild as the couple waited for his birth certificate and adjusted their travel plans, according to the hospital.
Family members joked that the boy’s nickname should be “Cruise.”
