You don't need to be an elite athlete to participate in the 2028 Summer Olympics.
- You can now apply to be a volunteer for the games in Los Angeles and San Diego.
Why it matters: This is your moment to be part of the world's largest sporting event as more than just a fan.
Driving the news: Applications opened Tuesday for the 60,000-person volunteer crew at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- Most of the positions will be in LA, but there will be roles for the soccer games in San Diego and other cities across the country.
- Snapdragon Stadium will host 11 matches in July, including women's group stage and quarterfinals, and men's and women's semifinal and bronze medal games.
- The surf competition is also in our backyard, at Lower Trestles, on the border of San Diego and Orange counties.

Zoom in: Volunteers can welcome and guide spectators, support athletes, provide medical and translation services, assist with venue operations, competitions and ceremonies, and do other tasks related to communications and technology.
- Prepare to sign up for a minimum of 10 shifts during either the Olympics (March-August) or Paralympics (August-September).
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Those selected from the first applicant pool will do an in-person or virtual assessment to make the final cut.
- All volunteers will go through training specific to their roles and venues ahead of the games.
Fans still looking to get tickets to the games should register for the draw by July 22 for the second ticket drop.
- You'll be automatically entered if you registered for the first draw and didn't get a time slot or didn't reach the ticket maximum.
