Deltarune is one of the best single-player couch games out there, especially when someone is going in blind. However, there isn’t an official way for multiple players to play through Kris and the Fun Gang’s journey at the same time. Now, thanks to a team of talented modders, up to three players can experience the game as a co-op RPG.
The Deltarune Local Multiplayer mod was developed by a team led by Yomsmam. Rather than give all three players the chance to control Kris, Susie, Ralsei, or any of their guest party members in the overworld, it restricts multiplayer to combat and minigames. When either of these comes up, the other two players get to jump in.
Whenever you enter combat, every player currently playing the mod assumes control over one of the characters. Each player gets to do an action when it’s the party’s turn, and when the enemy launches an attack, each player, represented by a red, green, or purple heart, has to dodge projectiles.
With two extra participants tossed into the mix, Deltarune‘s turn-based combat becomes a completely different beast. In some ways, it becomes a lot harder, as there are now a few extra targets for enemy attacks to hit.
However, if every player’s dodging game is on point, you can rack up a ton of TP for special actions in seconds, potentially making challenging encounters like the secret bosses much easier. It’s hilarious, challenging, and a great excuse to watch someone who doesn’t know anything about Deltarune‘s unfiltered reactions to the game’s best moments.
The mod works across all five currently available chapters, and you can bet the developers will update it once Deltarune Chapter 6 comes out next year. So if you’ve been meaning to introduce a friend ot the game, this might be the perfect way to do it.
