An awaited win for the West in the NC Coaches Association East-West All-Star Boys Soccer Game.

Behind an MVP performance from Southwestern Randolph High School's Fernando Hernandez, the West took the match, 3-1. Hernandez scored on two of the three goals for the West.

The win for the West ended a streak of five unbeaten games for the East. Entering tonight, the East won three of the five matchups in the 2020s and the teams played to a draw in two of them.

It was the 34th edition of the annual all-star game. The East now leads the overall series, 16-12-6.

The match was played at Truist Point Stadium, a baseball stadium retrofitted into a soccer field in High Point.

Scoring was opened with a connection between Southwestern Randolph teammates. Aaron Avina found Hernandez for a go-ahead goal in the ninth minute. Late in the second half, Avina located Hernandez for the game-clinching goal.

Josue Macias Newton-Conover High School and of the West had a quality header try in the 21st minute, but it bounced off the crossbar. Macias kept at it and later scored an unassisted goal in the 50th minute.

The East team had a golden opportunity to tie the game with 21 minutes to go on a penalty kick, but the ball was mishit. The East's lone goal was scored by Adler Sauer in the 43rd minute.

Watauga goalkeeper Solomon Triplett came up huge for the West in the second half, making multiple key saves.

The East team was coached by Dwight Findlay of Hoggard High School. The West team was coached by Thomas Clark of West Caldwell High School.
