Have You Gotten One of These Weird Scam Texts Lately?

The Bobby Bones Show started comparing strange text messages they've been receiving lately, and what seemed harmless quickly raised some red flags. After Amy responded to one, it led to a conversation about scam tactics, fake job offers, and why replying may not be a good idea.

Have You Gotten One of These Weird Scam Texts Lately?

Text Scam That's Fooling a Lot of People

The scammers are getting creative again.

The show started comparing some of the strange text messages they've been receiving lately, and the messages are just believable enough to make you stop and wonder if they're real.

Eddie recently received a text that simply said:

"Can we have a brief word?"

That's it.

No name. No explanation. Just enough mystery to make you think it could be someone important.

Amy revealed she got one that said:

"Can I interrupt you for a moment?"

Meanwhile, Lunchbox received one asking if he was available.

The scary part is that these messages are so generic they could apply to almost anyone.

Bobby pointed out that whoever is sending them is probably hoping you'll assume it's a co-worker, friend, boss, or someone whose number you just don't have saved in your phone.

Against Bobby's better judgment, Amy answered one of the messages. Almost immediately, she got a response from someone claiming to have a flexible remote job opportunity.

That led the show to realize multiple scam messages were following the exact same script.

Some arrived as text messages. Some arrived as graphics.

But they all seemed to be leading toward the same thing: getting personal information from people looking for remote work opportunities.

The conversation reminded Bobby of a previous scammer that managed to keep him engaged in a fake conversation for nearly two weeks.

The lesson?

If you receive a vague text from a number you don't recognize asking for a quick favor, a brief conversation, or an easy remote job opportunity, be careful!!

And maybe don't do what Amy did and keep replying!
