There are endless possibilities concerning what may become of Grand Theft Auto Online when Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally here. For example, plenty of fans expect that there will be a distinct Grand Theft Auto 6 online component whenever its PC version is ready to launch, and, in that case, it’s anticipated that the current GTA Online would be folded into it somehow.
However, there are a lot of fans who’d prefer for Rockstar to ditch GTA Online as we know it in favor of something that feels appropriately current- or next-gen. If Grand Theft Auto 6 boasts some of the best photorealistic graphical fidelity in a game ever, while Grand Theft Auto Online is tethered too much to a bygone era that fans are prepared to move on from, it’ll inevitably be jarring. Either way, we might not have seen the last of GTA Online’s big updates.
On X, user GTA 6 Countdown believes they have found a tease indicating that GTA Online’s newest update, the Kortz Center Heist, will not be its last before Grand Theft Auto 6 launches this holiday season. According to GTA 6 Countdown, a character named Mr. Faber calls the player once the heist is completed and says, “Is there no limit to your talents? I suppose we shall find out.”
Naturally, dialogue like this implies that Mr. Faber will “find out” when players go on a new heist. Whether a new heist update arrives before or after the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is anyone’s guess, but it probably wouldn’t have been ludicrous to assume that there’d be another new update for GTA Online at some point in the future.
User ZadyNite agrees, stating that there has never been any word on whether the Kortz Center Heist would be GTA Online’s last. On the other hand, though, users like Qxan__ think that GTA Online is teasing a connection between Mr. Faber and Grand Theft Auto 6, with Mr. Faber being one of the first people players get a call from thereafter.
User ItsYaBoyA_a_ron shares the same mindset as a lot of fans when they say, “Once GTA 6 is out I’m done with 5.” This demonstrates that, while many fans have enjoyed GTA Online for what it is, others have merely been tuning into it as a means to an end, and to make the wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 more bearable.
Nothing should surprise gamers anymore, least of all Rockstar, considering how different the future of the industry looks compared to a few weeks ago. If Grand Theft Auto Online is sustainable on its own without anything needing to be changed, perhaps Rockstar won’t rearrange a hair on its head.
