"Grand Theft Auto 6" may not offer a 60 FPS performance mode at launch, according to comments from a former technical director who has worked on major Rockstar Games projects.

For an ambitious game like "GTA 6," it would be a big deal if current-generation consoles can handle the game's heavy graphics and massive open world at a consistently high frame rate.

With "GTA 6" expected to feature detailed environments, dense crowds, advanced vehicle systems, and a highly interactive world, maintaining 60 FPS could be a significant technical challenge. Rockstar Games has not yet confirmed the game's final performance modes, meaning any claims about its frame rate remain speculative.

'GTA 6' Graphics Could Take Priority Over 60 FPS

According to Tweak Town, the debate centers on the potential balance between graphical quality and performance. A 60 FPS mode could require developers to reduce certain visual features to maintain a stable frame rate.

These compromises could include lower resolution, reduced environmental detail, less complex lighting, or fewer objects and pedestrians appearing simultaneously on screen.

Rockstar has traditionally placed a strong emphasis on visual quality and world detail. Games such as "Grand Theft Auto 5" and "Red Dead Redemption 2" demonstrated the studio's focus on creating highly detailed environments filled with dynamic characters and activities.

If "GTA 6" follows this approach, Rockstar could prioritize a 30 FPS target to preserve the visual ambition of its open world.

Will GTA 6 Run at 60 FPS?

The question of whether "GTA 6" will have a 60 FPS mode remains unanswered. Various rumors and online reports have suggested that the game could offer separate quality and performance options on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

However, Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed these modes. Until the developer releases detailed technical information, players should treat claims about "GTA 6" running at 60 FPS as speculation.

The game's performance could also vary depending on the console. The Xbox Series S, for example, has considerably less graphical processing power than the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, potentially making a high-frame-rate mode more difficult to implement across the entire current-generation lineup.

Could the PS5 Pro Run GTA 6 at Higher Frame Rates?

The PlayStation 5 Pro could potentially offer advantages over the standard PS5 because of its additional graphics performance. However, that does not guarantee that GTA 6 will run at 60 FPS on the upgraded console.

According to former "GTA" technical director Reece "Kiwi Talkz" Reilly, running a game as technically demanding as "GTA 6" at 60 FPS while maintaining high image quality would still require careful optimization.

A 60 FPS mode could also use techniques such as dynamic resolution scaling or upscaling rather than delivering native 4K resolution at all times.

Rockstar's History Could Offer a Clue

Rockstar has previously released enhanced versions of its games that introduced improved performance on newer hardware. This raises the possibility that "GTA 6" could eventually receive performance improvements through future updates or upgraded versions.

However, there is currently no official confirmation that Rockstar plans to add a 60 FPS mode after launch.
