After years of building around Ja Morant, Memphis finally decided it was time for a new direction. The Grizzlies moved on from their star guard, receiving Jerami Grant and Kris Murray in return. The return might not jump off the page, but given how much Morant’s value had changed over the past few seasons, the bigger goal was clear: create a fresh start.
Sometimes the hardest move for a franchise is admitting that something isn’t working anymore. Even when it seems like it should. Memphis made that decision and now gets the chance to build around a younger group that could define the next era of Grizzlies basketball.
That group starts with Cameron Boozer, who brings plenty of excitement as one of the team’s biggest building blocks moving forward. Along with Cedric Coward and Zach Edey, Boozer gives Memphis a young core with size, skill and lots of room to grow.

The Grizzlies also reshaped their frontcourt, adding Isaiah Stewart and Quinten Post while moving on from Santi Aldama. Stewart brings the toughness and physicality Memphis has always valued, while Post gives the team another big man. Nothing wrong with that, right?
There are still plenty of unknowns. Anytime a team moves away from a player as talented as Morant, there will be an adjustment period. The Grizzlies won’t simply replace his ability to create offense overnight.
But this isn’t about replacing the past. It’s about building something new.

That might mean some growing pains in 2026, but it also gives the franchise a chance to develop a team that fits the way it wants to play.
