With LeBron James seeming to take an eternity to announce which NBA team he’ll suit up for next season, NBA stars past and present are weighing in with their thoughts on his situation.
That includes Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce, who currently co-hosts a podcast alongside fellow Celtics champion Kevin Garnett. Pierce, who had plenty of famous battles against King James during his time on the court with Boston, was at Derek Fisher’s 3rd Annual Be Better Foundation Celebrity Golf, where TMZ asked him about the superstar free agent.
According to Pierce, James’ “best fit is Cleveland” and they “don’t want him on the Celtics” before he ends his career.
It doesn’t seem like the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer will have to worry about any surprising news indicating that James has chosen Boston for his next team. Three Eastern Conference teams have consistently remained among the top suitors: the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers.

In addition, the Western Conference’s Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors are rumored to have a shot at landing King James. However, it seems those Eastern Conference squads have the edge and could create another power shift in the NBA.
Many others believe that a return to finish out his career where it started in Cleveland makes the most sense. However, joining the Miami Heat with star players Bam Adebayo and recently acquired two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo would also be intriguing.
James joining Philadelphia would seem to create an NBA version of the Avengers, as they already feature All-Star players in the starting lineup with Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Jaylen Brown, the latter of whom they acquired via trade with the Celtics this offseason.
Add in emerging young star VJ Edgecombe with the NBA icon, James, and it’s quite a formidable group of players that could contend for a championship.
While analysts, players, and fans contemplate where James is going, some are growing frustrated with how long it’s taking for him to announce something. However, Pierce said that it’s really up to James and shouldn’t affect others.
“He can do whatever he wants at this stage. His decision is his decision, man. I’m not holding my breath waiting on him to make a decision. Whatever decision he makes is gonna be the right one,” he said.
That said, one individual who previously said they wished James would hurry up is NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who indicated the wait on the announcement was delaying the NBA schedule, as it’s crucial to know which team the basketball great is playing for during what is possibly his last season.
