Hollywood is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Kaylee Hottle, the deaf actress who captured audiences with her breakout role as Jia in the “Godzilla” franchise.
Hottle died at just 18 years old after a car crash in Maryland, ending a promising career that had already made her one of the most recognizable young deaf performers in mainstream cinema.

According to TMZ, Joshua explained that he was in Texas when authorities called to inform him that his daughter had been involved in a serious crash in Maryland. He later received another call telling him that her heart had stopped while she was being transported to the hospital.
In the livestream, titled “I am taking a flight that I never would like to take,” Joshua spoke about traveling to Maryland to bring his daughter’s body home.
Kaylee’s mother also paid tribute in an emotional ASL message, saying it had been a privilege to be her mother.
Reports revealed that actress was a passenger in a 1995 Honda Accord that veered off the roadway before crashing into a ditch. Authorities reportedly believe speed was a contributing factor.
The 19-year-old driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while another passenger was not treated at the scene.
Hottle Became The Heart Of The MonsterVerse
Although her career was only beginning, Kaylee Hottle left a lasting impression through her portrayal of Jia, the deaf orphan who shared a unique bond with King Kong in 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong” and returned in 2024’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.”
The role resonated with audiences because Jia communicated with Kong using American Sign Language, something Hottle said reflected the special connection between the characters.
“Because Kong and my character had a special bond. We signed with each other,” she told The Daily Moth in 2021.

Following news of Kaylee Hottle’s death, the Texas School for the Deaf, where she was a senior, released a heartfelt statement mourning one of its students.
The school wrote, “It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that one of our TSD seniors, Kaylee Hottle, tragically passed away yesterday in a car accident in Frederick, Maryland.”
The school extended its condolences to her family, classmates, and friends while asking the public to respect their privacy.
Officials also confirmed counseling and additional support services would be available to students grieving the loss.
