Georgia QB Gunner Stockton names nation's 'best play-caller'

Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton spoke with the press at SEC media days. Stockton made it clear that he supports often criticized Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.

Stockton went as far to make it clear that he thinks Bobo is the best play caller in college football.

"I think he (Coach Mike Bobo) gets the best out of everybody," Stockton said. "I know he gets the best out of me and all my teammates cause a lot of people have criticism. They don't get to see the day in and day out thing that Coach Bobo does. He barely sleeps during the week, during the game week. But just they don't see all the work he puts in, the love he has for the university, the love he has for all my teammates and me."

Georgia recently signed Bobo, and defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann, to a contract extension through the 2028 season. At SEC media days, Georgia coach Kirby Smart preached that he loves having continuity at the coordinator positions and is happy with his two coordinators. Stockton, like Smart, has a lot of praise for Bobo.

"I truly don't think nobody understands how hard he works," Stockton said. "And I think he's the best play caller in the country. And I'm just really excited for this season."

Stockton isn't the only one that believes in Bobo. Last year, Bobo was the nation's only offensive coordinator nominated for the Broyles Award, which is given annually to the nation's coordinator. Bobo found a way to get Georgia's offense to consistently move the ball and put up points in 2025. The Bulldogs came up a bit short with a key missed red zone opportunity in the Sugar Bowl against Ole Miss, but Bobo deserves credit, not criticism, for helping Georgia win a second straight SEC championship.

Stockton always has a positive attitude and it'd be surprising to see him ever criticize any of his teammates or coaches through the media.
