Former Texas offensive lineman Cole Hutson has been granted a temporary restraining order against the NCAA in his age-based eligibility lawsuit filed last week, a source tells On3. On Texas Football’s Bobby Burton first reported the news. Hutson had requested a judge to grant a fifth year of eligibility to play the 2026-27 college football season.
Wednesday’s TRO allows Hutson to immediately resume college football activity as a judge schedules a preliminary injunction hearing. It’s the latest suit to be filed following the NCAA’s move to a model allowing five years of eligibility.
Hutson played in 48 games and made 23 starts during his time with the Longhorns. He’s played at guard and center and earned a Cowboys rookie minicamp invite after going undrafted. Hutson was a member of the Texas offensive line that was selected as a Joe Moore Award semifinalist.
It’s unclear at this point where Cole Hutson would play college football for the 2026 season, but sources have told On3 that a return to Texas is not out of the question.
