Former Panthers CB signs with Browns on Tuesday

A former Panthers CB has signed with the Browns.

One of the last few remaining Carolina Panthers free agents is now off the market.

As announced on Tuesday, the Cleveland Browns have signed cornerback Damarri Mathis. The 27-year-old defender spent the 2025 campaign with the Panthers.

Unfortunately for Mathis, his 2025 campaign was cut short very early on—as he sustained an ACL tear at practice a week before the start of the regular season. Carolina would place him on injured reserve on Sept. 6.

Mathis got to the Panthers through a waiver claim late that summer. He previously played under Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero during his rookie season with the Denver Broncos in 2022.

Denver started Mathis in 18 of his 43 contests through 2024. He amassed 103 combined tackles and nine passes defensed.

With Mathis headed to Cleveland, only two Panthers from the 2025 roster remain unsigned—offensive lineman Jake Curhan and inside linebacker Krys Barnes.
