After throwing for close to 4,000 passing yards, Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has gotten everyone excited for his return. One among this cohort is Chase Daniel, a former NFL quarterback, who is excited to see the dual-threat quarterback perform this season.
“To me, he is the best returning starter in the SEC,” the SEC Network analyst said on July 20.
The former New Orleans quarterback was part of the SEC Network panel and was discussing Chambliss’ return in his senior year. Daniel praised the performance Chambliss put forth last season, saying it would’ve propelled him in the 2026 draft had he declared.
“Yeah, I mean, overall 4,000 yards passing, over 500 yards rushing, a lot of different touchdowns,” the Hall of Famer said in an X post shared by SEC Network. “What really won me over when I broke him down, I thought he should have come out in the NFL Draft because of his college football playoff run.”
The stats back Daniel’s assessment. In 2025, he racked up 3,937 passing yards and 22 passing touchdowns. He played in 15 games and threw just three interceptions.
The QB made 133 carries for 527 rushing yards and recorded eight rushing TDs. More importantly, he emerged as a leader for the Rebels last season.
He was a transfer from Division II and emerged as the Rebels’ leader in navigating a tumultuous year. The program’s former head coach, Lane Kiffin, quit just as the Rebels were in their first-ever postseason.
This move wreaked havoc for the team, and yet they won two games before losing to the Miami Hurricanes. The Rebels could not advance in the college football playoff finale, but everyone was rooting for Chambliss by the end.
In his postseason run, Chambliss recorded 558 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Chambliss was not the only standout player. He had running back Kewan Lacy for support and was also lavished praise from Daniel.

Like Trinidad Chambliss, Kewan Lacy was a transfer who joined the Ole Miss Rebels in the 2025 season. Like him, he too had a stellar run last season, which was a stark contrast from his 2024 season.
“In three games, averaged over 300 passing yards and six total touchdowns,” Chase Daniel said. “Plus, you have Kewan Lacy coming back, who’s the best running back in the SEC. Yes, I know you’re losing four of your next five pass catchers.”
Last season, he recorded 306 carries for 1,567 rushing yards and scored 24 rushing touchdowns. Concerning his receiving stats, he recorded 29 receptions for 177 receiving yards.
In 2024, with the Missouri Tigers, he made just 23 carries for 104 yards and zero touchdowns.
