Ohio State Buckeyes’ Head coach Ryan Day has been fighting hard for one of the biggest recruits in the 2027 class. Right now, the momentum is moving against him.

On Monday, On3’s insider Pete Nakos logged an official prediction for five-star running back David Gabriel Georges to choose Tennessee over Ohio State. The announcement comes Wednesday, July 22, on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel.

“Sources in Knoxville remain ultra-confident they can land Gabriel Georges,” Nakos wrote, per On3. “Ohio State sources believe they remain in the hunt, but are not as confident as previously.”

Georges is ranked the tenth best player overall and the second best running back in the 2027 class by the 247Sports Composite. He stands six feet tall and weighs 205 pounds. He plays at Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and is originally from Quebec, Canada.

The NIL picture tells you everything about how serious both programs are. Tennessee’s package is a three-year deal worth $2 million annually, coming in at $6 million total. Ohio State is believed to be offering more than $1 million per year.

On3’s analyst Chris Low weighed in on where things stand heading into Wednesday.

“I think Tennessee’s in good shape. I really do,” Low said on the 3HL on 104.5 The Zone podcast. “I think this kid’s got a great future wherever he goes, whether it’s Ohio State or Tennessee. I do think, though, that Tennessee’s in really good shape with it.”

Georges himself spoke about what drew him to both programs when he sat down with Rivals earlier in his recruitment.

“Coach Locklyn is someone I can really learn from. He’s a great coach, and he knows how to develop running backs,” Georges said about Ohio State, per On3. “The environment and the coaches really make me like Tennessee,” he added, talking about Tennessee.

Ohio State is selling him on individual development and a specific coach he trusts. Tennessee is selling him on the overall atmosphere and the people around the program. Both pitches have clearly landed. Which one stuck more is what Wednesday is about.

Ryan Day’s Ohio State still has a real case even with Tennessee holding the momentum

On3’s Steve Wiltfong noted that Day’s program still has plenty going for it in this recruitment.

“The Buckeyes have a lot to stand on in this recruitment,” Wiltfong said on The Wiltfong Whiparound podcast, per Rivals. “I think he’s always envisioned himself at a place like Ohio State.”

Georges is expected to become the highest-paid high school running back in recruiting history regardless of where he lands. This one is not over until Georges walks up to that podium Wednesday evening.
