Celtic are now said to be pushing for a deal to sign a new striker as they look to add quality to their front line. The Bhoys are in need of fresh attacking talent, and they seem to be relying on the signing of Haissem Hassan to fill one of their wide spots, with Daizen Maeda now looking as though he is headed to Ipswich Town on a £10million deal.
Martin O'Neill knows he needs new signings aplenty this summer, and he knows he needs to address the front line after Kelechi Iheanacho snubbed a new deal. In Iheanacho's defence, he was told he needed a pre-season only for Celtic to wait until around halfway into the pre-season before offering what sounds like a lowball offer.
Ultimately, Iheanacho had a better and longer offer from Turkish second tier club Bursaspor, and few can blame him for taking it. But Celtic have now been left with a vacant striker spot, and the new season starts in less than two weeks.
Celtic consider deal for Danish frontman
According to Football Insider, Celtic are now considering a deal for Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh. Celtic have already signed Camilo Duran for £5.5million, and they also have Callum Osmand, but they are going to want a third option, with Johnny Kenny likely to leave.
Hogh was said to have been a Celtic target in January, but a deal came to nothing, and they are now said to be eyeing a fresh approach. Bodo/Glimt are reportedly demanding at least £7million to sell this summer, with the forward in fine form.
Hogh has scored seven and assisted seven in his first 12 games of the Norwegian league campaign, which is ongoing, albeit it paused for the World Cup. Bodo/Glimt won't want to lose their star frontman, who is still only 25 years of age, particularly as they will be trying to qualify for the Champions League in the coming season, like Celtic, competing in the third qualifying round.
Celtic could certainly do with a striker like Hogh, who is a productive striker who can provide competition and an alternative to Duran.
If O'Neill's men are to qualify for and compete in the Champions League this season, they are going to need more than one quality striker, and not to say Osmand can't play that role, but he is still developing at this stage of his young career.
