Kyle Abbott and Victoria Newman Find an Unexpected Spark

At the GCAC bar, Victoria Newman spots Kyle Abbott right after her brother storms off in a mood, and she asks him to keep her company. He agrees on one condition: no talking about their families. It takes about ten seconds for them to realize that rule is basically impossible, since their families are the only thing they have in common.

They laugh at their own failed attempt at small talk and try an icebreaker instead. Victoria admits she wears Jabot’s signature foundation, which delights Kyle to no end. For a few minutes, neither Kyle Abbott nor Victoria Newman looks like they’re bracing for the next family disaster.

Diane Jenkins Wants to See Martin Laurent

At the Abbott mansion, Kyle Abbott announces that he went to see Patty behind bars, and his parents are stunned. He’s not offering Patty a deal, but a DA might, if she flips on Victor. Diane Jenkins worries how that could play out and asks her son to help find Markham instead.

Jack Abbott wants to talk about what Markham did to Diane. She explains he was professional at first, playing therapist at his locked house, before he got less and less professional. He used every trick he had to tap into her insecurities, courting her so carefully that she had to play along to plan her escape.

Kyle recalls how heartbroken Markham looked the night he rescued Diane, and she worries he’s hiding out somewhere plotting revenge. Jack and Kyle insist he’ll have to go through them first. Diane isn’t so sure that’s enough. She worries Markham could bury everything he’s done unless they expose him themselves, and that he could come after her and Kyle both. They agree to beef up security, but Diane refuses to sit around waiting on the police.

Diane realizes Markham had a stack of Martin Laurent’s books and likely knew him personally, since the two even co-authored a paper together. Jack thinks it’s a reach, but Traci Abbott walks in right as Diane insists she needs to see Martin Laurent herself.

Jack doubts Martin would ever help them, but Diane figures his ego won’t be able to resist. Traci disagrees. Martin would never talk to Diane after everything, but he might talk to her. This could be Traci’s chance to reclaim some power of her own, playing his manipulation game right back at him. Jack agrees to call Detective Burrow to set up a call between his sister and Laurent, doubts and all.

Traci is almost looking forward to staring the maniac in the face. She insists this isn’t about payback, it’s about helping Diane, though she admits Martin has been sending her remorseful letters lately, claiming he wants to make things right. That guilt trip might be exactly what cracks him open. Jack confirms Burrow is setting the video call in motion, and Traci says she’ll be ready.

Nick Newman Catches Phyllis and Matt Mid-Kiss

At the GCAC, Phyllis Summers tells Matt Clark she isn’t letting him skip town, and he wonders if she’s planning to tie him up again. She insists running isn’t the answer, but as Nick Newman walks in, Phyllis leaps up and kisses Matt anyway, telling him he’s welcome for it.

Nick demands to know what’s going on, and the pair bicker while Matt insists he only announced he was leaving an hour ago. Phyllis reminds her ex that she and Matt saved his life, and that it isn’t up to the Newmans who gets to stay in Genoa City. She leads Matt away, leaving Nick fuming at a table until Victoria Newman joins him.

They shift to talking about their mother’s upcoming bandage removal, and Victoria admits she’s terrified of facing it without their father in her corner. Nick insists Nikki won’t relapse, and tries to convince his sister he has his recovery under control. Victoria isn’t buying his mood swing and gets him to admit the real problem: watching Phyllis and Matt lock lips has him rattled. She calls it disgusting but not remotely shocking, and reminds him Phyllis isn’t his responsibility to manage anymore.

Up in Phyllis’s suite, Matt reminds her of what happened the last time he was in this room, and she admits real remorse for it. He forgives her anyway and still plans to leave. When she suggests he take her with him, he points out he doesn’t have a dime to his name.

Talk turns to Victor’s threats, and Matt mutters darkly about prison. Phyllis warns that if Victor’s threatening it, he can absolutely make it happen. Matt insists the old version of him would already be gone, but he’s trying to be someone new. When he asks if she’s using her old tricks to keep him around, she doesn’t deny the chemistry between them.

They’re two peas in a very sad pod, both used to being hated and unable to outrun their own baggage. She’s done chasing something big. She wants to be proud of herself, get her family back, and keep the one friend she has.

They start kissing, and Matt reaches for her zipper right as pounding starts on the door. Nick is outside, yelling.
