Beloved Hollywood actor Samuel L. Jackson caught some backlash from former Argentine legislator Rebeca Fleitas after he reshared a telling post on his Instagram account Sunday night.
Following Argentina's loss to Spain in the 2026 World Cup on July 19, Samuel, 77, took to his Instagram Stories to reshare a post from the SEC Black Alumni Network that encouraged Black people not to support Argentina winning the FIFA World Cup. In the post, it was explained that the Black community shouldn't support Argentina because the country has "historically been one of, if not the most racist, countries in the world."
The acting legend's reshare post quickly went viral, gathering both positive and negative responses. but one very angry response was from Fleitas on X on Monday, July 20. Fleitas served on the Buenos Aires City Legislature in Argentina from 2021 until 2025.

"@SamuelLJackson is ignorant and a liar. Talking about Argentina without knowing its history? Shows how malicious he is," she wrote in an X post, sharing the image Samuel posted on Sunday for reference. "In my country, Black people NEVER had to sit at the back of a bus to avoid mixing with white people due to racial segregation."
Fleitas added, "Fact: The US had nearly 250 years of legalized slavery (until 1865) and a century of segregation under Jim Crow laws until 1964. Generalizing and ignoring facts doesn't combat racism; it only creates division.
"A piece of advice: look at the US's own history before pointing fingers at Argentina—that’s the absolute bare minimum for an honest debate. Boycott: stop watching any movies starring Samuel L. Jackson."
Jackson's reshared post that triggered so much outrage in full read, "Dear Black People… Please do not cheer or root for Argentina to win the FIFA World Cup. Argentina has historically been one of, if not the most racist, countries in the world. If you are black person cheering for Argentina, this is what you look like to me. We hear you loud and clear."
Included in the post was a photo of Samuel's Django Unchained character 'Stephen' photoshopped wearing an Argentina jersey. The photo of Stephen being used in the post conveyed a strong message since in the 2012 Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained, the character embodied the "Uncle Tom" archetype.
The term "Uncle Tom" originated from a character in Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1852 antislavery novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, and carries a negative connotation within the Black community.
Black people are often branded an "Uncle Tom" if they're overly subservient to white people and/or betray other Black people to gain approval and favor within the white community. This "Uncle Tom" identifier was exemplified through Django Unchained in how Stephen would be overly nice and loyal to his white slave master Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), but would be outright hateful to other Black slaves or freedmen.
