Euphoria Fan Favorite Reveals Going Method for Shocking Season 3 Scene

Jacob Elordi reveals the shocking and gruesome details of his final Euphoria scene.

Jacob Elordi appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live recently, where he was interviewed by guest host and Euphoria co-star Colman Domingo. In the interview, Elordi describes the shocking details of his final scene.

Elordi's character, Nate Jacobs, meets his demise in Euphoria Season 3 after multiple episodes of being chased by a mobster whom he owes money to. In his final, gruesome scene, Elordi is trapped in a coffin and buried alive with a single breathing hole leading above ground. But before he can be rescued, a rattlesnake slithers into the coffin and bites him so that when he's finally dug up, it's too late.

In his interview with Domingo, Elordi describes "going method," saying, "I got locked in a coffin for two days straight with prosthetics and a fake tongue, and I couldn't see out of my eyes. And then Sam [Levinson] put snakes into the coffin."

Elordi Says Sam Levinson Brought Him Back to "Torture" Him

Euphoria, created by Sam Levinson, cast Elordi as a sociopathic high school bully. Season 3, though, takes place five years after the characters have graduated high school, and Nate is marrying Cassie (Sydney Sweeney). But after taking over his father's business, Nate is bleeding money, and Cassie wants to spend $50,000 on flowers for their wedding. So Nate resorts to borrowing money from a sketchy businessman/mobster, but when he can't pay the man back, Nate finds himself in a large bit of trouble.

Elordi spends the majority of his scenes running away from the mobster or getting his toes cut off as punishment for not paying his debt. Nearly every episode saw Nate being beaten up and dismembered.

"I think Sam brought me back to torture me," Elordi said on Jimmy Kimmel. "It was like, six weeks of me just getting beat by a seven-foot guy. I was just running the whole time."

But Elordi was a good sport and described filming as "so much fun because you don't have any lines," mimicking Nate's screams. "That's all you have to do. It's great."

After the audience let out a collective "Aww" regarding Nate's death, Elordi turned to them and sarcastically thanked them, adding, "Finally, after eight years of all of you saying, 'F**k Nate, kill Nate, Nate's a piece of s**t' — yeah, I read your tweets — now you're sad. Hmm."

Regarding his final scene, Elordi said that Levinson put an actual boa constrictor into the coffin with him, leaving the snake in there for filming. Elordi says he was "fine with it," though.

"He had a very nice personality," the actor said of the snake. "He was very docile and very sleepy [...] So I was kind of nudging him, trying to get him to get active and do the scene, because he was meant to be threatening. But he was like a little dog. He just kept curling up at my feet."

In response, Domingo laughed and said, "Nope, I couldn't do that."

Euphoria Changed Elordi's Life

As a whole, though, Elordi described his appreciation for the impact of Euphoria on his career, despite the divisive and poorly rated Season 3. The actor recounted being "super, super unemployed" before Euphoria as he went on audition after audition trying to land a role.

"[Euphoria] really changed my whole life. It's an incredible thing," Elordi said. "I don't know if I'll ever fathom the sort of size of that show and what it did for me. I mean, we're in movies now [...] I'm working with Ridley Scott." The actor also received an Oscar nomination for portraying the Monster in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, and played Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell's "Wuthering Heights."

Euphoria is available to stream on HBO Max.
