Norway star Erling Haaland became a household name while he made his FIFA World Cup debut in the 2026 tournament.
Haaland began with two goals in Norway’s opening win over Iraq, and he scored a total of seven goals during Norway’s run to the quarterfinals.
Norway’s time at the World Cup came to a crushing end against England in a 2-1 loss, with Jude Bellingham playing hero for England with both goals scored, including the game-winner in stoppage time.

The next time soccer fans will see Haaland is with Manchester City, and the star striker has now set a record for the most expensive player in the Fantasy Premier League history, according to a report from Leon Imber of The Athletic.
“Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has surpassed his own record as the most expensive player in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) history. Haaland’s £15.5million starting price tag for the 2026-27 season eclipses the £15m record he set in the 2024-25 campaign. Mohamed Salah’s £14.5m starting cost last season was the third-highest in the history of the game,” Imber wrote.
“Haaland’s new record is £1.5m more than his price of £14m last season, which followed a 22-goal haul in 2024-25. The maximum price he reached during the 2025-26 season was £15.1m.”
“Haaland now appears four times in the list of the nine most expensive players of all time, having cost £14.0m at the start of both 2023/24 and last season, 2025/26.”
Haaland has been a star with Manchester City. Last season, he scored 27 goals with eight assists in 35 appearances, making him the top scorer in the league and earning him another Golden Boot trophy.
After the thrilling World Cup run, Haaland has become even more popular with fans from across the world noticing the Norwegian star.
Haaland doesn’t have that much time to rest before the season begins for Manchester City.
They face off against Inter Milan on in Hong Kong in an exhibition on August 1, although the first match of the season is against Arsenal on Sunday, August 16 before the official Premier League opener against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, August 23.
