Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark has been in plenty of headlines during her third season in the WNBA.
The biggest story was in June when Clark was hit in the throat by Phoenix Mercury star Alyssa Thomas. That play led to a big fallout regarding the officiating in the league and even landed Thomas a one-game suspension as well as death threats from fans online.
Recently, Clark was smacked in the face by New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart, and Clark proceeded to receive another technical and a $1,000 fine as she gets closer to an automatic one-game suspension.
Now, the Fever star has been accused of fake limping after a play in the game against the Golden State Valkyries a week ago. Clark drew contact from Golden State center Kiah Stokes, and after not being whistled for a foul, Clark expressed her frustration to the officials.
Now, Hoops for Hotties host Mariah Rose said Clark was faking it in a recent episode of the podcast.
“When I saw the slow-mo replay of this situation play out, and I saw that she was not kneed, she was not touched. She was not brushed up on. That did not happen,” Rose said.
“And on top of that, she fake-limped to the other side of the court. Caitlin, I’m getting the ick! What are we doing, mama? I didn’t like that. So the fake limping when you didn’t get touched by Kiah Stokes.”
Rose continued to call out Clark publicly during the episode.
“She freaked the…out on the ref, like she had gotten kneed in the quad, as she put it. And then after the game, she even gave, like… a Karen speech and was like, ‘the refs just can’t miss that.’ And then when we look back at it in slow-mo and the replay, she wasn’t touched. She’s talking about, ‘I had to play the rest of the game with a contusion,’ but she didn’t touch you. What was contused?” Rose added.
Clark insisted she was hit hard, even saying she had played with a contusion for the remainder of the game.
“And then I have to play with a contusion in my leg the rest of the game. It’s ridiculous. [The ref] said I initiated the contact. Which is fine, but you can’t knee me in the leg. Knock me over,” Clark said.
Clark has repeatedly been called out for playing the victim card, with Jason Whitlock recently laying into the Fever star for the way she has handled things lately.
At the end of the day, it has been a very controversial season for Caitlin Clark and the WNBA officials, and it might be something the league takes a closer look at in an effort to find a way to control the game.
