The Vampire Lestat's finale left us with some unanswered questions that will lead us into future stories if the show is renewed for Season 4. Since that renewal hasn't happened yet, a lot of the "unanswered" moments may leave fans a little anxious.
Like, where is Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian)? At the end of Episode 7, titled "The Failures," Daniel is in a bowling alley, keeping Lestat de Lioncourt's (Sam Reid) head in a bowling bag while he plays.
At the same time, Lestat's body is in the butcher shop where Armand (Assad Zaman) is keeping Louis de Pointe du Lac's (Jacob Anderson) head and body. Daniel and Armand plan to hurt them both, with Armand giving his "armends" to Louis before asking for an apology as well. Daniel's motives are a little less clear, because Raglan James (Justin Kirk) and his team from the Talamasca stop Daniel and take Lestat's head with them.
This means that the last image we see of Daniel Molloy is him baring his fangs at the Talamasca, including Alex (Seamus Patterson). That's it.
CBR's Rachel Leishman spoke with Bogosian and Zaman about the finale, and Bogosian broke down how it feels to see his character left on a cliffhanger like that.
"Well, there's two things going on at the same time," Bogosian said. "We're at the end of a season, and if you know anything about serialized TV shows, you gotta find a way so you can jump off, but also maybe it's the end. Both things are happening at the same time. That's just a practical consideration.
"I think, for me, Daniel has had everything stripped away — even his revenge — and now he's just pure anger. And where is that gonna go? He's a vampire. I would like to believe that he's gonna go off and try and build his power so that he can deal with all these f***ers who've been messing around with him and his life for a very long time — for, you know, 50-odd years.
"But in that moment, it's all about just warning Raglan: 'OK, you got me this time, but you better be careful.' And it's not entirely clear what Raglan's up to half the time. So, all of this is to be figured out in the future, I guess.
"I don't know to what degree the other guys know everything that's gonna happen with their characters in every season. There's nothing in the books that really lets us know where this is all going, but we learn about it as we go along. And it's been an incredible ride, riding the imagination of Rolin Jones and Hannah Moscovitch."
Eric Bogosian Says Daniel Is in the "Twilight Zone"
The finale ends with Armand leaving Louis' severed head for Fareed (Gopal Divan) to take care of. Louis gets put back together off-screen, as does Lestat, and the final moments of the season are Lestat yelling at his mother, Gabriella (Jennifer Ehle), on his tour bus that also features Raglan, the Talamasca — but Daniel is nowhere in sight.
So where is he? Did his companion and maker Armand come to find him and the two are off together? Did he fold at the Talamasca's request, or did he fight and lose? We just simply don't know.
Bogosian went on to joke about the future, saying it was "sad" that Daniel and Armand couldn't succeed in killing Lestat and Louis so that it'd be the Daniel and Armand show going forward.
"I mean, we just really don't know what's going to come next. We're usually happily surprised," Bogosian said. "Daniel's in the Twilight Zone by the end of the season, and I'm hoping that will be a place to generate immense power and consequences.
"It's too bad. Speaking as both Daniel and as Eric, that we didn't succeed in killing those two guys because we would have had a much better series going forward: Daniel and Armand. Moving on. We got Claudia out of the way, let's get rid of these guys and then we can keep going. Just take them all out.
