Elon Musk is teasing an AI-generated Odyssey adaptation to directly compete with the blockbuster Christopher Nolan-directed film, which has faced a wave of right-wing backlash for being too “woke.”

“Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” Musk wrote in a Wednesday message on X in response to a three-minute, AI-generated clip of The Odyssey.

Critics have been mocking Musk over his “historically accurate” declaration, noting Odyssey includes a cyclops and more fantasy elements. Others have dragged the X owner for relying on AI when he has the funds to potentially just finance his own adaptation.

Musk and others have taken issue with Nolan’s Odyssey, which opened to more than $250 million worldwide, calling its casting woke. Critics are unhappy with the casting of transgender actor Elliott Page, as well as Black actress Lupita Nyong’o playing Helen of Troy.

Musk claimed Nolan “desecrated” Homer’s poem and made it woke so he could be “eligible” for Oscar attention.

Some on the right, including Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro, have broken with the right-wing backlash and praised Nolan’s movie.

Fox News’ Lara Trump and Griff Jenkins recently gushed over the epic while Nolan promoted the film on their network.

Nolan has dismissed backlash to his film and its historical accuracy, modern dialect, and casting choices.

“Comes with the territory,” the director told The Telegraph. “But look, these conversations that happen before people see the film — they’re always irrelevant, because no one having them knows what the film actually is yet.”

The Odyssey earned an “A” rating from opening weekend audiences through Cinemascore. Additionally, its $120-plus million domestic opening weekend was the best for any live-action movie this year.

In a Tuesday post to X, Musk appeared open to a non-AI-generated Odyssey adaptation, responding positively to one user suggesting he give $100 million to Mel Gibson to direct his own version.

“I want Elon Musk to give Mel Gibson $100 million to film an Odyssey adaptation with painstakingly historically accurate ships, armour, weapons, and casting, with all dialogue taken straight from the original poem and delivered in Homeric Greek,” the user said, to which Musk replied, “I’m down.”
