Elon Musk is envisioning his own version of The Odyssey.
On Wednesday, July 22, the Tesla CEO and owner of X, 55, reposted a three-minute dialogue scene from Homer’s The Odyssey that was created using his AI-driven image and video generation tool, Grok Imagine.
The clip features an AI-generated version of Odysseus speaking to Calypso, who has entrapped him on her island, telling her of his desire to return home.
“Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” Musk wrote.
The Odyssey is a Greek poem written by Homer, following Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The poem — known as one of the oldest pieces of literature — spans 24 books and is often seen as a companion piece to Homer’s The Iliad, which covers the Trojan War.
Back in January, the billionaire amplified racist backlash surrounding Christopher Nolan‘s decision to cast Lupita Nyong’o as the mythological character Helen of Troy and her twin sister Clytemnestra in the recent film adaptation of the Greek epic.
A few days later, Whoopi Goldberg blasted Musk on The View, explaining that his point of view is based on the fact that “Homer described this fictional character as a fair-skinned blonde who was so beautiful that men started a war over her.”
“I don’t know if you realize this, Lupita is also considered one of the world’s most beautiful women,” she continued, addressing the entrepreneur directly. “So I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. You don’t have to actually go to the movie. I don’t know why you feel like you need to speak on this.”
In May, Alec Baldwin also came to Nyong’o’s defense by sharing a photo of the 43-year-old actress to his main Instagram feed.
“Dear Elon…but she IS the most beautiful woman in the world…Alec,” he captioned the post, after which his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, left a red heart and fire emoji in the comments.
The Odyssey earned more than $264 million at the global box office in its opening weekend, becoming the third-largest opening for a movie in the U.S. in 2026 and Nolan’s biggest of his career.

The movie, which stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as his son Telemachus and Anne Hathaway as his wife Penelope, is in theaters now.
