Three people were taken to the hospital for injuries they sustained after a school bus transporting students from the Maryland School for the Blind crashed into a building in Parkville.
There were a total of two adults and three children on board when the bus crashed into the building and became “fully lodged inside of the structure” around 2:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday, July 21, according to a statement obtained by PEOPLE from the Baltimore County Fire Department.
One of the children, the bus driver and another adult at the scene of the crash were taken to the hospital for “minor injuries,” officials said, noting that at least 8 other individuals were evaluated at the scene but declined transport.
Although additional details about the crash, including the cause, remain unknown, local Fox station WBFF reported that authorities say “at least three vehicles” were involved, but that he numbers could change as the investigation continues.
“We are grateful to the Baltimore County Fire Department, EMS, law enforcement, and hospital personnel for their prompt response and care,” the Maryland School for the Blind said in a statement shared with CBS News.
The school did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Carrie Shelley, a local business owner, was in one of the nearby buildings when the crash occurred.
Speaking to The Baltimore Banner, she said that one of the students “jumped out” of the bus after the crash, noting that they looked “terrified.”
“So a bunch of us helped him out and had him on the steps,” Shelley said.
The outlet reported that the other students were also helped off the bus by bystanders.

Following the crash, roads in the area were briefly shut down. However, the Baltimore County Police Department issued a traffic alert hours later, letting drivers know that they had been reopened.
