Jennifer Bischof has a longtime love for bookstores that she brought to Frisco when she moved from West Virginia roughly a decade ago. And now, she's ready to take that passion into a new place in the heart of her home city.
In the late fall, Bischof plans to open her own physical shop with her business: Frisco Booksellers. That comes after nurturing the company in recent years with pop-up stores and a booth at a now-closed Painted Tree retail site.
The concept of a brick-and mortar home for the independent bookstore was the end goal from day one, Bischof said in a statement, as it diversifies the retail lineup for readers in the Frisco area.
"We need bookstores more than ever now," said Bischof. "We need analog entertainment. We need to learn and grow and foster empathy within ourselves. We need places for our community to gather and collaborate."
The bookstore is set to land on Main Street, near the Summer Moon Coffee shop. The retail addition comes amid an effort to update Frisco's downtown in a multimillion-dollar redevelopment plan. The "Rail District" overhaul aims to revitalize the city's historic downtown and make it a more walkable destination.
"With the improvements that have been made to Frisco's downtown, it's now the perfect place for a cozy, unique bookstore," Bischof said. "Frisco has plenty of the shiny and new - we need more vibey, cool places to gather, and Main Streets are traditionally just that - mom and pop stores with a funky vibe."
Bischof said it will be a general interest independent bookstore.
Customers can expect new releases on Tuesdays, the "the most buzzed-about books," Bischof said. It will have a large literary fiction section and several genre fiction sections, including mystery, thriller, sci-fi, poetry and classics.
There also are plans for a "considerable non-fiction section" and "a small local interest section." Coffee table books will be available - and more.
"We plan to have a thoughtfully curated children's section that will support the child throughout their reading life, starting with board books, and moving through picture books, early readers, middle grade books and graphic novels, and Young Adult reads as well."
The site for the bookstore, 6959 Main St., was purchased in 2022, but the shop was put on hold amid the construction and renovation efforts downtown. The new store will cover about 1,400 square feet.
