President Donald Trump was delivering a speech but onlookers were more distracted by a member of the crowd in the background. The president had been speaking during a campaign-style rally event at Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia on Wednesday (July 22). The state is politically divided, with intense public battles for governor and Senate ongoing.
During his speech, Trump, 80, drew attention to his newly funded “Trump accounts”, which create tax-free investment funds for every child born through 2028, and are to be initially funded with $1,000 from the federal government. The accounts will be managed by parents, with the children able to access the funds when they turn 18.
The president also addressed escalating tensions in the Middle East and ongoing clashes affecting global oil shipping lanes. He also made a peculiar tribute to fallen Army 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, in addition to taking swipes at some of his political opponents.

But segments of his speech were overshadowed by a member of the crowd behind him, who perfectly mimicked Trump’s distinctive hand gestures and speaking patterns.
A clip of the crowd member has been doing the rounds on social media. On X, the Call to Activism account shared the footage and penned: “OMG: An audience member behind Trump is going viral for MAKING FUN of Trump and impersonating his movements during his boring speech. This is absolutely humiliating.”
In the comments section, fellow social media users were keen to share their thoughts. One person said: “Trump gave a speech. The guy behind him gave a performance. One had a microphone. The other had an audience.
“And somehow the guy in the background was the most entertaining person in the room. That’s got to hurt.”
Another joked: “Trump response: Let me tell you, that guy behind me - total disaster, completely unfunny. A total lightweight. He’s a terrorist, believe me. We are going to send him to Cuba, and it is going to be something.”
A third said: “Is he aware he was captured on camera. This man has incredible courage to do it”.
While a fourth commented: “When the background seating area is more entertaining than the actual speech, you know it’s bad”.
But someone else shared a different interpretation of the situation and said: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. So there’s that! He was dancing the Trump dance. He seems more like a fan.”
This isn’t the first time in recent weeks that the president has been subject to mockery. On Sunday (July) 19, Spain beat Argentina to claim the World Cup title in the beloved global soccer tournament.
Spain’s win was the country’s first since 2010 but when it came to Trump presenting the winning trophy, many viewers were unimpressed and believed the president gatecrashed the trophy lift.
This follows accusations Trump “humiliated the FIFA boss” during the ceremony as the team celebrated their win.
In clips shared on social media, the US president can be seen standing beside the team as they crouched down to build momentum for a trophy lift - but Trump seemed unwilling to move from the stage.
Shortly after, Gianni Infantino, president of Fédération Internationale de Football Association, tried getting him to move aside so the team could enjoy their moment.
Trump did move slightly to the side, but his actions still caused a stir on social media, with many people criticising the president for “not letting Spain have their moment”, and his “long standing problem leaving the stage”.
