In the first year of their rebuild, Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley overhauled a roster loaded with veterans.

They have also made it a priority to sign several key veterans to contract extensions this offseason.

First, it was running back De'Von Achane (four years, $68 million), followed by center Aaron Brewer (three years, $52.5 million). Now, Miami has rewarded veteran linebacker Jordyn Brooks after his first-team All-Pro campaign in 2025.

The Dolphins and Brooks have agreed to a three-year contract extension reportedly worth up to $51.3 million, with $35 million guaranteed, according to several national reports. The deal keeps Brooks in Miami through the 2029 season.

During a time when they are starting over at several positions, including quarterback with Malik Willis under center, the Dolphins were wise to give Brooks a contract extension. He has recorded the most combined tackles in the NFL over the past two seasons, piling up 326 tackles during his time in Miami.

Brooks anchors an inexperienced Dolphins defense

Veteran leaders matter in any rebuild, establishing the foundation and setting the standard in the locker room. Hafley's multiple defensive fronts rely on zone-heavy concepts and versatile players who can thrive in both 4-3 and 3-4 alignments. Brooks is an instinctive linebacker who can fly sideline to sideline against the run while also holding up in coverage.

Miami and Hafley will also be able to use Brooks as a blitzer with Tyrel Dodson or Jacob Rodriguez on the field in third-down situations. Brooks' leadership is another invaluable reason the Dolphins chose to sign him to an extension.

The Dolphins are expected to field an inexperienced defense with significant questions surrounding both the pass rush and secondary entering training camp. At a time when some veterans skipped voluntary workouts this spring, Brooks continued to show up, saying he refused to send the wrong message to younger players.

Sullivan and Hafley are trying to build a new culture in Miami. In their short time with the organization, they have already shown players they value leadership and high-level performance by rewarding Achane, Brewer and now Brooks with contract extensions.
