Dodgers’ Dave Roberts calls Shohei Ohtani bullpen session a ‘big sign’ in knee recovery appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Shohei Ohtani hasn’t pitched in a game since the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 4-3 win over the San Diego Padres on July 3. While he’s been able to step in as a designated hitter, the two-way phenom has slowly been working his way back to the mound while recovering from a knee injury. After his bullpen session on Wednesday, manager Dave Roberts opened up about how important it is for Ohtani to continue to get the work in.
While talking with media members just before the start of the contest against the Philadelphia Phillies, Roberts explained how the 32-year-old has made progress throwing on flat ground. Ohtani appears to be taking the necessary steps in his road to recovery.
“It’s a big sign because I think that the grass, the flat ground, all that stuff is well and good,” Robert said about Ohtani’s bullpen session. “The arm’s fine. It’s more of just going down the slope, getting over your front side. That’s the big test.”

Shohei Ohtani is currently dealing with irritation and soreness in his left knee. The Dodgers shut the nine-year veteran down from pitching for the time being, which was more of a precautionary decision than anything else. L.A. seemingly wants to ensure Ohtani is fully healthy to pitch again when it matters most in the playoffs.
While he works his way back to the starting rotation, the four-time MVP has maintained his dominance in the batting order. He enters Wednesday’s contest against the Phillies with a .287 batting average and .394 OBP, totaling 102 hits, 22 home runs, and 60 RBIs through 356 hits.
