The CEO of the American Tinnitus Association said that the non-profit's goal is to help as many people as possible.

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The American Tinnitus Association (ATA) is a non-profit based in Washington, D.C.

Patrick Lynch is the CEO, and he says their goal is to help as many people as possible.

“There’s about 50 million Americans that have this sensation of ringing or buzzing in their ears, and I am one of them,” said Lynch. “It’s one of those weird conditions where unless you have it yourself, it’s kind of hard to understand the impact.”

Lynch noticed the signs of tinnitus after he was diagnosed with cancer as a teenager.

Dr. Hannah Glick is in charge of programming at ATA. She said they have a lot of support programs for people living with tinnitus, including a helpline that is making a difference.

“We have skilled people on the other end of that helpline, many of which are healthcare providers that can pick up those calls,” said Glick. “They answer questions that a person suffering from tinnitus might have and help them get access to care.”

Lynch says they have support groups across the country that allow people with tinnitus to connect with others and not feel isolated. For more information, visit their website.
