What a difference a day makes! The cold front that caused all of the severe weather last night didn’t go far, but it did drift down into central VA and southern MD, allowing most of us to see a dry day. It was still warm and muggy, with high temperatures into the upper 80s, but soon we’ll see cooler and drier air rush in. A few storms bubbled up near the front this afternoon, but those have pushed east, and now we’ll all stay dry through the night. Though there will be waves of clouds at times, temperatures will tumble into the upper 50s and lower 60s overnight with humidity levels tanking.
We’ll have quite the change of pace with our weather pattern to end the week, as it will almost feel like spring or early fall with how much cooler and more comfortable it will be. High pressure will slide by north of the DMV on Thursday and Friday, funneling northerly winds and cool/low humidity air into the region. Afternoon highs will only be in the upper 70s and lower 80s, with overnight lows staying in the 50s and 60s. A few clouds will likely return to the mix on Friday as the stalled front to the south pushes some cloud cover our way. The start of the weekend will feature more of the same on Saturday.
Some warmth and humidity will start to return on Sunday and into the beginning of next week as the stalled front over the Southeast starts to lift back north as a warm front. Peak temperatures should still only reach the mid-to-upper 80s, which isn’t bad at all for the end of July. A few showers and storms may develop, but the next true wave of stormy weather will arrive on Tuesday. A storm system coming out of the Midwest will guide the warm front through, followed by a strong cold front that will spark scattered rain and storms throughout the day. It will cool off a little but stay muggy behind the front through the middle of next week.
Have a great start to your Thursday!
