The Chicago Blackhawks will be without Connor Bedard to begin the 2026-27 campaign. The star center suffered a brutal shoulder injury during a practice skate a couple of weeks ago. Still, signing Bedard long-term was a top priority for Chicago. And the Blackhawks were recently able to ink him to a $75 million contract over a span of five years.
Bedard is undoubtedly one of the best young centers in the NHL. He is the clear cornerstone to this franchise as they look to become one of the NHL’s best teams once again. After signing his contract, he made it clear that he has one goal for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.
“We want to take a big step this year. We want to be a playoff team and that’s our only goal,” the Blackhawks star said, via NHL.com.

Chicago certainly shares his ambition, and made that clear this offseason. The Blackhawks traded the fourth overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft in a package for Bowen Byram from the Buffalo Sabres. Additionally, they added important depth players in the forms of Jordan Greenway, Ian Cole, and Cole Smith.
“Our adds are going to be a huge difference. We feel good about our group and what we’ve got going in. We’re extremely confident of each and every guy in the room and the growth we’ve all had this summer. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Bedard said of the team’s offseason moves.
It will be a while before the former first-overall pick can take the ice with his new teammates. However, Chicago’s quest for the postseason remains the same. The Blackhawks will begin the 2026-27 NHL season on September 29th against the Vegas Golden Knights.
