PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down Tuesday in Clermont County, with reports of trees toppling across roads and trapping some residents in their homes.
According to WLWT Channel 5, the tornado occurred at about 3 p.m. Officials have not completed an official assessment of the storm.
WCPO Channel 9 reports several trees were downed and that homes were damaged. Residents in one home were unable to get out because the road was blocked.
There were no reports of injuries.
In Cincinnati, Mayor Aftab Pureval declared an emergency because of flooding caused by heavy rain, WCPO reports. It’s the second time flooding has impacted the city in the past four days.
Six feet of water was reported on one street in the city.
“Water was actively being pumped from many homes, and the conversations I had with residents – many of whom were senior and legacy homeowners who have spent decades in this community — were stories of pure devastation,” Pureval said in a statement. “Those stories exist around Cincinnati right now. Folks throughout our city are going through the unimaginable, trying to pick up the pieces. ...
“There is work ahead of us, but we’re not going anywhere,” he said. “Today’s declaration is a needed piece of our response, but we will continue to be on the ground and in frequent communication.”
