'Come with me on Air Force One': Trump flies fallen soldier's family, crowd erupts in applause

MARIETTA, GEORGIA: Just hours after standing in silence as the remains of Army 1st Lt Tyler James Feehan were returned to American soil, President Donald Trump, on Wednesday, July 22, made an unexpected offer that turned an already emotional day into one the soldier's grieving family is unlikely to forget.

Learning that Feehan's relatives were headed to Georgia after the dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base, Trump invited them aboard Air Force One.

The family accepted, traveling with the president to his rally in Marietta, where thousands of supporters welcomed them with a prolonged standing ovation as Trump paused his speech to honor the fallen lieutenant.

Introducing Feehan's parents and relatives to the crowd, Trump asked supporters to recognize the family before the arena erupted in applause.

Calling Feehan "a flawless, perfect person" who was "brilliant" and "respected by everybody," Trump thanked the family for their sacrifice before pointing toward the sky.

The president also promised that the young Army officer's sacrifice would not be forgotten.

"We will carry Tyler's memory in our hearts forever. It's an honor to have you here today," he told the family.

Speaking at the Georgia rally, Trump described attending the dignified transfer ceremony as the hardest responsibility of his presidency.

"Standing there, watching... it's very tough to watch. It's the toughest thing of anything I do," he said.

He then explained why the Feehan family had arrived with him.

"One of the families happened to be traveling to Georgia...I said, I'll give you a ride on Air Force One. And they said, 'wow'. But they're heartbroken. They live minutes away from here," Trump recounted.

A final journey home for fallen soldiers

Earlier, Trump stood with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Gen Dan Caine, and honor guards at Dover for the solemn transfer of four Americans killed in Iran-linked attacks.

Among them was Lt Tyler Feehan, a young Army officer who died in the strike on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.

As flag-draped cases were carried from the aircraft, Trump remained at attention beside senior military leaders, marking one of the presidency’s most somber duties.

But hours later, the tone shifted. What began in silence ended in sound, thousands rose to their feet as Feehan’s family entered the Georgia rally, turning a political event into a deeply emotional tribute to a fallen soldier.
