Residents of Colfax Township will see proposals about road maintenance and fire protection services on the August primary ballot.
The Road Millage Renewal proposal asks residents to vote on a 1 mill renewal, levied at $1 per $1,000 of taxable property value. For residents with a home worth $100,000, this could mean $100 a year.
The mill would be levied for four years, from 2027 to 2030, inclusive. If approved, it is estimated to raise $136,640.53 in the first year and would go towards construction and maintenance of secondary roads within the township.
The Fire Protection Millage renewal will also be on the ballot, which asks residents if the millage rate should be renewed at 1.75 mills, or $1.75 per $1,000 of taxable property value. For residents with a home worth $100,000, this could mean $175 a year.
The mill would be levied for four years, from 2027 to 2030, inclusive. If approved, the mill is estimated to raise $239,120.93 in the first year. Funds would go towards providing fire protection and other related services within the township.
The deadline to register to vote by mail or online is July 20. After that, new voter registrations will be required in-person from July 21 to Aug. 4. More information on registration can be found on the Michigan state website.
