Apa told Dylan Sprouse that the “love punch” helped him get clean.

It sounds like one of the epic lows of Riverdale. Archie got a “wake-up punch” from Jughead at a strip club, which helped him realize he needed to quit drugs. KJ Apa went on Brendan Columbus and Dylan Sprouse’s Wildmen podcast and discussed Apa and Cole Sprouse’s time wildin’ out in the ’Couv. “Cole and I would walk into places in Vancouver all the time,” Apa said. “I remember we almost got into a fight.” Dylan was present for this almost-fight, and the two recounted it together. It took place at a Vancouver strip club, when Apa was “doing a lot of drugs and a lot of my close friends were worried about me,” in his own words. Cole Sprouse found out Apa was using, and he punched him. Rather than escalate the fight, Apa ran away in tears. “I was like, ‘Oh, dude, I’m gonna get him,’” Dylan said. “You were three blocks away by the time I was, like, just getting my bearings.”

Apa said the “love punch” helped him understand he needed to get clean. “Anything that makes me feel good, I will abuse,” he said. “Even eating, my relationship to eating — especially on that show — was really bad.” He said he used to “eat doughnuts all day long, go back to my trailer, throw up” on the set of Riverdale. “It’s … that addictive quality that I have, and I will always have,” he said. “I’ve identified it, and now I know how to talk to it.”
