Cincinnati Bengals star Dalton Risner and his wife, Whitney, are sharing some heartbreaking news about their family.
In a joint post shared to Instagram on Friday, July 17, the couple revealed that they had suffered their second pregnancy loss, just months after learning their first pregnancy was not viable.
“At 16 weeks, Dalton and I found out we lost our sweet baby boy. I wish I was writing any other post than this right now, ” Whitney, 28, wrote alongside photos of the pair’s intended pregnancy reveal, which included a sonogram photo strip of their unborn child.
“I never imagined our journey to starting a family would begin like this. This is our second loss in just a couple of months,” she continued.
The photo carousel also featured smiling photos of the couple on a beach with their dog as the furry pet licked a white celebratory cake that read, “Baby Risner.”
Whitney, who married the Cincinnati Bengals offensive guard, 31, in June 2022, went on to thank her husband for his support amid the devastating loss, writing, “More than ever, I’ve realized how important it is who you marry and choose to walk through life with. Life is hard in so many different ways. I truly can’t imagine getting through this without my rock and best friend, @dalton_risner66.”
Detailing the pain of her most recent miscarriage, the jewelry designer said losing a child for the second time has introduced her to “a depth of pain and heartbreak that I never knew existed.”
“It feels like I’ve lost so much…,” Whitney continued. “Our precious baby boy, pieces of myself, and the future I had planned out for the past 4 months.”
She ended the emotional update by thanking their friends, family and fans for their support and shared a message for anyone going through something similar: “If you’re walking this same painful road, I want you to know that you are not alone.”
Whitney previously opened up about the couple’s experience with pregnancy loss in a June interview on The Cincinnati Enquirer‘s Beyond Sunday podcast, in which she shared that her new jewelry line, titled “The Forever Collection,” was inspired by the difficult journey they’ve had to start a family.
“My husband and I experienced pregnancy loss this past season, and I was sitting there thinking about having something to show for it,” she told host Kelsey Conway, noting that the pieces feature a pear-shaped diamond representing a mother and a round diamond symbolizing a child. “You go through this really hard, extensive process of not only losing your baby, but things that follow that you have to go through and grasp. And then you’re kind of left with nothing.”
