This was all around a very tough game for the Clippers. They were held to just two hits with 7 strikeouts to just 1 walk.
Rorik Maltrud has been pretty solid this season, but he had arguably his worst start of the season today. He allowed 7 earned runs and 4 home runs in just 3.2 innings pitched. His ERA is now up to 4.31 on the season. Trevor Stephan still cannot seem to figure it out post surgery. He allowed two earned runs tonight in 1.1 inning pitched. Codi Heuer, Alaska Abney, and Jake Miller combined for 3 scoreless innings of relief.
A huge performance from Alex Mooney helped the RubberDucks win in extra innings tonight. He went 3-4 with 2 RBIs and the game winning sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the 10th. Jaison Chourio hit an absolute BOMB to tie the game when pinch hitting in the bottom of the 9th. Nick Mitchell also went 2-4 with an RBI. Angel Martinez went 1-4 with a walk in his rehab performance, he looks to be close to his return to Cleveland.
It’s been a tough year for Dylan DeLucia, he had an ok start tonight. He allowed two earned runs in 3.1 innings pitched with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. His ERA is now at 6.88 on the season.
Despite only having 6 hits, this was a dominant performance from the Captains. Tommy Hawke led the way, going 2-3 with two walks with a triple. Jonah Advincula went 1-3 with a walk and a two RBI single. Juan Benjamin also had a huge two RBI single in the top of the 4th inning.
The highlight of this game was easily Jacob Zibin’s performance. He tossed 4 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts and zero walks. He has flown somewhat under the radar this year but he is a pitching prospect that is very intriguing. I think there is certainly potential there for a big league future if he can clean up some things. Jogly Garcia and Cam Schuelke combined for 5 scoreless innings of relief.
Dauri Fernandez led the way for the Howlers tonight, going 3-5 with a huge three RBI double in the bottom of the 8th inning. Cannon Peebles went 1-3 with two walks and an RBI single in the bottom of the 8th. It’s been an injury riddled season for Riley Nelson but he went 1-2 with two walks and an RBI double tonight. Hopefully he is starting to feel healthy after all the injuries he has dealt with this season.
Nelson Keljo had one of his better performances of the season. He has had no issue striking out batters this year, but he has had an issue keeping runs off the board. Tonight he was effective at both, allowing just one run in 5 innings pitched with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks. His ERA is now down to 4.84 on the season.
