Chicago Police are aware of the slap that occurred during the national anthem at a recent Cubs game at Wrigley Field.
A viral video shows an older Cubs fan slapping a younger fan for not standing up during the playing of the U.S. national anthem. Prior to the Cubs vs. Twins game, the Jersey Girls performed "The Star Spangled Banner" at Wrigley Field. However, one young fan appeared to remain seated during the performance.
"Stand up," the older fan appears to say to the younger fan.
The older fan then leans closer to the younger fan before saying something else. When the young fan doesn't stand up, the older fan slaps him.
Video of the incident has more than five million views.
Chicago Police are reportedly aware of the incident
TMZ Sports reports that Chicago Police are aware of the incident, though to this point, no investigation has been filed.
"A Chicago Cubs fan's smack heard 'round the internet isn't leading to a police investigation ... at least not yet," TMZ Sports reported.
"Chicago Police tell TMZ ... they're aware of the viral video showing an older Cubs fan slapping a younger spectator on the back of the head during the national anthem at Wrigley Field ... but so far, no police report has been filed."
"The head smack apparently got the message across ... because the younger fan stands for the remainder of the anthem. As for whether the incident will go any further ... that depends on whether someone decides to officially report it."
The Cubs, meanwhile, have been having a really good season. Chicago is 56-44 on the year, coming off a series win against the Minnesota Twins.
The Chicago Cubs will return to play on Tuesday night, taking on the Detroit Tigers at 8:05 p.m. E.T. The game will be airing on MLB TV.
