Chadwick Boseman’s brothers are petitioning to remove his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, as administrator of the late actor’s estate.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Kevin and Derrick Boseman alleged that Ledward has not properly distributed Chadwick’s remaining estate assets in the six years since his death. They are claiming she is mismanaging the estate and requesting that she be removed as administrator.
Referencing their parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, who are supposedly entitled to 25 percent of his estate, the petition read that “[Ledward] continues to exercise complete control over his estate without input from Leroy and Carolyn.”
“[Ledward] continues to exert unilateral control over Decedent’s estate, denying Decedent’s family long overdue closure or participation in decision-making regarding matters affecting Leroy and Carolyn’s interests in Decedent’s estate,” the filing continued.
A reported 2022 “Final Order” directed Ledward to distribute estate assets, including a $40,000 Life Long-Term Care Policy to mom Carolyn. Kevin and Derrick also alleged in the docs that other assets were owed, including “royalties and residuals, image and intellectual property rights, real property, a previously undisclosed bank account at CNB, and other personal property.”
Additionally, “numerous residual payments from SAG-AFTRA dating between 2020 and the present” are allegedly unaccounted for, as well as unclaimed property belonging to Chadwick, per the filing. Kevin and Derrick also claimed Ledward “failed to distribute Decedent’s image and intellectual property rights by exerting unilateral control” so that she “continues to profit from Decedent’s fame.”
His family, however, alleged that they’re “blocked” from “pursuing lucrative business opportunities that might benefit Decedent’s elderly parents.” The brothers added that Ledward’s “lack of transparency creates the appearance that she is concealing assets from Decedent’s family and from the Court.”
According to the petition, Ledward is entitled to 50 percent of the estate because Chadwick died without a will approximately six days after they got married in 2020. (Chadwick and Ledward were together from 2015.)
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for further comment.
The Black Panther star died in 2020 following a private battle with stage 4 colon cancer. He was 43.
“The edges get less sharp, I think, is the best way to put it,” Ledward said of grieving her husband in an interview with Today in March. “There are still edges and there are still a lot of painful moments. But I think it becomes easier to find the love in those moments, as well. You become more accustomed to carrying the weight of grief. But it doesn’t go away.”

As for his family, they honored Chadwick last year with a fine arts center in his hometown of Anderson, South Carolina.
“He was a wonderful child,” his dad told Fox Carolina, with his mom adding, “To us, he’s still Chad.”
According to TMZ, the family wants Ledward to distribute the remaining estate assets, as well as provide a complete accounting of the estate, within 30 days. They also want to appoint attorney Jason Rubin as administrator.
