Saskatchewan Roughriders captain Jayden Dalke has died at the age of 30 following a head-on collision on Highway 11 near Lumsden, Saskatchewan.
The Saskatchewan Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said the crash occurred around 9 p.m. on Saturday while the CFL star was returning to Regina after the team’s bye week. The collision also claimed the life of 22-year-old Bhishma Rajyaguru.

According to the RCMP, Dalke was driving a silver SUV northbound in the southbound lanes before striking an oncoming black SUV. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles and were pronounced dead at the scene.
“There are two people deceased,” RCMP spokeswoman Mandy Maier said, per CBC. “This is extremely tragic.”
Police also confirmed alcohol and cannabis were found inside Dalke’s vehicle. Reportedly, the same SUV had left a Lumsden gas station without paying for fuel about 30 minutes earlier.
Officials stressed that autopsies and toxicology tests remain ongoing. The investigation will determine whether impairment contributed to the crash.
The CFL acknowledged Dalke’s passing on social media.
“The CFL family mourns the passing of 30-year-old Canadian defensive back Jayden Dalke,” the league wrote.

The Roughriders described Dalke as much more than a standout player.
“It is with profound sadness that the Saskatchewan Roughriders mourn the loss of linebacker and team captain Jayden Dalke, who passed away in a car accident yesterday evening,” the team said.
“A relentless warrior on the field, Jayden’s determination, toughness and work ethic inspired his teammates.”
The club also praised his character away from football, saying, “Jayden had a unique gift of making the people around him feel special and valued. No one ever left a conversation with him without a smile.”
Dalke entered the CFL as a sixth-round pick in the 2022 draft out of the University of Alberta. He appeared in 68 regular-season games, recording 69 defensive tackles, 31 special teams tackles, and one interception.
He also helped Saskatchewan win the 2025 Grey Cup, the franchise’s fifth championship.

Dalke’s death leaves the Roughriders mourning a respected captain while another family grieves the loss of Rajyaguru. As investigators complete their work, the focus remains on allowing the legal process to determine the circumstances behind the tragedy.
