The New York Yankees have players who should probably get moved at this year’s deadline, and some of those guys might actually have more value than the fanbase would think.
We’ve seen Anthony Volpe’s role get reduced, perhaps he could get traded (and yes he’d upgrade shortstop for some contenders), I’m not sure they’re all that in-love with Camilo Doval, and they could have a rotation surplus.
Given that they don’t have an elite farm system, these Major League pieces could help them work around some barriers to finish deals that otherwise wouldn’t be plausible for the Bronx Bombers.
We’re just two weeks out from these deadline questions being answered, but here’s what I think could go down if they were to deal from their MLB roster.

The Yankees Could Use MLB Talent To Get Some Deals Done
The Yankees’ farm system isn’t abhorrent but they do have less to move than some of the top farms in baseball such as what the Brewers or Rays could have at their disposal to deal.
What Brian Cashman could do to try and get a deal across the finish line might come down to moving some of his Major League pieces in areas where they’re being squeezed out.
Earlier this summer I reported that Anthony Volpe drew interest from some rival clubs looking to add at shortstop during the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline, and I wouldn’t be shocked if they revisit that this summer.
Volpe is playing a part-time role right now and only plays one position, and yet he’d probably start at shortstop for numerous teams that are firmly in the playoff race.
You could easily argue that he’d start at shortstop for the Rays, Braves, and Twins right now, who might not have a better option to turn to if Jeremy Pena or CJ Abrams stay put.
Jose Caballero at shortstop is fine, but the Yankees are so obviously preparing George Lombard Jr. for a call-up and I’d be shocked if the deadline passes and he isn’t in the big leagues.
Francys Romero has previously reported that Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez are expected to be shopped at the deadline, as both of them could intruige some teams looking for outfield depth.
Even the most pessimistic view of what these players could net you at the deadline should come with some hope of landing an interesting player, the Yankees traded Oswald Peraza and landed outfield prospect Wilberson De Pena.
He was an unranked player in the Angels’ system who has exploded to become a top 15-20 prospect in the Yankees’ system a year later while Peraza has continued to be a below-average starting shortstop.
Guys like Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez should garner more trade interest from rival clubs than Peraza, and they could help complete some deals for additional offensive depth.
I mentioned Minnesota earlier, could the Twins be interested in getting Anthony Volpe and Ben Hess in a deal for Ryan Jeffers to keep them in the playoff race while cashing in on a rental?
Hess is still a good prospect who should rank inside the Twins’ top 10 and Volpe would immediately become their best option at the shortstop position by a country mile.
Jasson Dominguez (or Spencer Jones) might be a good fit for the Reds who could eye 2027 as a year to contend in, and I wonder if the Yankees would be able to use one of them in tandem with prospects for a Spencer Steer type.
If you want to get crazy, Will Warren could probably help the Yankees complete a major deal since the right-hander has been a No. 3-4 starter this season statistically with tons of control beyond 2026.
Cheap starting pitching is one of the most valuable things on the market, Shane Baz is not markedly better than Will Warren and netted the Rays a haul last winter, so maybe he’s the piece who can help them get a Mason Miller or Tarik Skubal.
Camilo Doval is interesting because I think he’s still super talented and that a team could buy-low on him to try and unlock his potential, he has control for 2027 and maybe someone’s into that too.
Getting a team’s no. 25 prospect for him could help them in making a deal elsewhere if they flip him for another name, but who knows what that could be.
Maybe it’s Camilo Doval, Anthony Volpe, and Ben Hess for Ryan Jeffers considering just how bad that Twins bullpen is and it wouldn’t be the first time the Yankees traded a hated former top prospect and struggling vet to Minnesota.
Brian Cashman is going to consider any possibilities to make the team better, and I strongly believe they have some MLB pieces who can work as a sweetener to land better players on the market.
