Cam Skattebo has allayed New York Giants fans’ fears by insisting he will not be injured before the 2026 NFL season.
Last week, at a Fanatics Fest event in New York City, Skattebo tried to do a backflip right by the WWE entrance area, but he fell upon landing, quickly getting back to his feet, clapping his hands, and cheering. He even rolled up his pant leg, showed his knee, pointed at his leg and kneecap, then shrugged as if he wasn’t worried about his recovery right before he jumped.
Remarkably, this is not the first time since rehabilitating his injury that Skattebo has done a flip this offseason. The Giants running back completed a backflip in May, but this attempt ended with him stumbling backward and landing on his backside, as though an NFC East rival had drilled him.

Last year, Skattebo suffered a season-ending injury against the Philadelphia Eagles. He dislocated his right ankle, had an open tibia fracture, and tore his deltoid ligament, needing surgery after the game that ended his rookie season.
His antics have led to fears that the 24-year-old could suffer a setback before training camp. Speaking to SiriusXM’s ‘The Fantasy Footballers’, Skattebo laughed off the incident and said: “I’ve been doing backflips since I was like four years old. So it’s natural to me.
“I am going to address the elephant. I will not hurt myself before the (NFL) season.”
Skattebo’s repaired leg appeared to buckle and twist upon landing, but he insisted he is ok. He added: “Those floors are bouncy so when I took off I was mid-air. I was like ‘Holy cow, I am not to land this. I am way too high.’ Landed. But then it had too much cushion. It was not a stiff, firm ground. I got back up and I was good to go.”
Earlier in the offseason, Skattebo showed off his recovery from the broken tibia he suffered last year by nailing a backflip during a charity basketball event. He had only just returned from injury, participating in organized team activities and mini-camp drills this offseason.
Skattebo’s behavior will not delight the new Giants head coach, John Harbaugh. In June, when the running back returned, Harbaugh said he told his running back “maybe no backflips out here today” — and they had agreed to avoidflips during practice. While they banned the move in practice, perhaps Harbaugh said nothing about off-field events.

After seeing his sophomore's latest backflip attempt, Harbaugh acknowledged his first response was: "Dude, at least stick it!"
The Giants will be concerned about Skattebo’s health because the running back showed real promise before his injury cut his rookie season short.
In 2025, Skattebo had 101 carries for 410 yards and five rushing touchdowns, plus 24 catches for 207 yards and two receiving touchdowns. His best game was against the Eagles, when he ran 19 times for 98 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 34-17 Giants win.
