The Chicago Bulls are getting their ducks in a row in preparation for a season like no other—a season where they will have the chance to generate a surplus after a prolonged recession.
It is the precocious 20-year-old named Caleb Wilson assigned as the catalyst.
Wilson just completed an NBA Summer League in Las Vegas that can be easily summed up as impeccable. In four games, he averaged 23.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game. As a result, Wilson was selected to the 2026 NBA Summer League First Team.

Additionally, he was honored alongside Meleek Thomas, Cameron Boozer, Brayden Burries, and Yaxel Lendeborg.
Other highlights included a 35-point performance against the Memphis Grizzlies, a couple of captivating dunks, and a strong demonstration of leadership.
The Bulls drafted Wilson as the No.4 pick in June. Wilson brings to Chicago a modern-day combination of size, length, athleticism, and physicality.
Tangibles that fill in many potholes long neglected by the city of Chicago.
From top to bottom, Wilson arrives during a time of rebuilding for the long haul and not settling in the short term.
On the whole, Wilson is surrounded by a player’s coach in Tiago Splitter. Furthermore, he has the backing of a player-oriented executive in Bryson Graham.
Plus, he’s under the guidance of a youthful core in Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis. Then, he has fellow draftee Dailyn Swain and hopeful teammate Jaylin Sellers to grow with.
But all eyes will be on him.

Undoubtedly, a significant reason why the Bulls remain a fan favorite franchise despite a recent string of losing seasons is, for better or worse, nostalgia.
Fans love to continuously relive the glory years where Michael Jordan became a godlike figure as he led Chicago to six championships in the 1990s.
But aside from Jordan, Chicago helped turn the likes of Scottie Pippen and Derrick Rose into household names. And if they played elsewhere, their name recognition may not be as strong.
That is the tradition in which Wilson walks into and is already embracing. Before he was drafted, he spoke of the significant impact his alma mater, North Carolina, had in turning out Chicago staples.
Certainly, Jordan, but also Scott Williams and Coby White, respectively.
Given the Bulls’ marquee influence as well as Chicago’s rich basketball culture, Wilson is in the right place at the right time.

His style of play could easily be mastered at any Chicago playground.
Wilson would hang tough with the gritty, hard-nosed players at Garfield Park on the West Side. The stomping grounds for Hoop Dreams stars Arthur Agee and William Gates. He could fit in with the players at Jackson Park on the South Side, which relies upon high IQ and produced folk heroes like Billy “The Kid” Harris.
Wilson would then head over to Hayes Park & Nat King Cole Park, also on the South Side. He’d run up and down the floor just as Rose and Dwyane Wade did.
Then when it’s time to see red at the Madhouse on Madison, it all comes back around.
If all goes according to plan, there will be plenty of Chicago kids, North, South, West, and East, that will mimic Wilson as they go out to hoop.
For them, he would be their Artis, Reggie, Jordan, Pippen, and Rose.
They’d begin games with player introductions: “From North Carolina, at forward, 6-10, Caleb Wilson!”
