A burning question about Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has been asked, and fans hope it will be answered early in the 2026 season.

There's no question about how great a quarterback Chicago Bears signal-caller Caleb Williams can be, but that doesn't mean there aren't more questions being asked about him.

Williams rolled through the 2025 season with ease, throwing for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns to seven interceptions, adding another four touchdowns to cap a great season. One knock on him, though, was the accuracy after only completing 58% of his passes last year.

Sports Illustrated writer Eva Geitheim had two burning questions she asked about the 2026 Bears entering the season. Geitheim's top question was whether Williams can be more consistent.

"Caleb Williams was magical in his second season, but he wasn’t consistent. His completion percentage was just 58.1%, and while he didn’t turn the ball over much or take many sacks, he also was far from an accurate quarterback throughout much of the season. The potential of the Bears’ offense is as high as almost any other, but can Williams become more accurate and efficient this season to help them become the machine they could be?"

Caleb Williams needs to prove that he can more consistent in 2026

The consistent part is a big question among all Bears fans, even though many believe he can get there. It's only been two years into his NFL career, so he still has time to grow as a quarterback.

What's holding him back right now is the accuracy and not having a high enough completion percentage. That problem dates back to his rookie year in 2024, when he only completed 62% of his passes. Last season, Bears head coach Ben Johnson set a 70% completion percentage goal that Williams was not able to achieve.

That was all forgiven for the way Williams played throughout the 2025 season. He made some of the most incredible throws of the season and led an NFL-record seven comebacks and game-winning drives, which helped.

One year into Johnson's scheme, Williams is expected to make another leap in 2026 now that he's going into his second season in the offense. Johnson has a very complicated offensive playbook that takes time to learn, but once the knowledge is obtained, it becomes significantly easier from that point on.

Williams has all the talent in the world, and no one doubts that he can get the job done, but he has to do it all over again. Another strong season, and he will be in the elite conversation.
