With the NBA Summer League dying down, the World Cup coming to a close and NFL training camp largely a week or two away for most teams, much attention was paid to this weekend's Peach Jam tournament as part of the EYBL circuit — and more specifically, the clear-cut top player after the weekend.
That player would be point guard Cayden Daughtry, who put on a run for the ages on the prep hoops scene. In eight games, the 6-foot guard averaged 32.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game on shooting splits of 58.6% from the field and 48.8% from three-point range. Daughtry was on a heater, to say the least.
He entered the weekend as the No. 9 player overall in the 2027 class, but has since risen to No. 3.
After lighting the prep scene on fire it begs the question: Where do the BYU Cougars stand in Daughtry's recruitment?
In short, it doesn't appear that the Cougars are seriously being considered as a landing spot for Daughtry, who competes for Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale, FL. While he has been offered by BYU, Daughtry spoke to Rivals' Jamie Shaw and had his focus narrowed in on programs like Kentucky, UConn,Tennessee, Miami, Louisville, Iowa and Michigan.
BYU was never mentioned by Daughtry.
While, at the moment, the Cougars don't seem to be in the mix for Daughtry's talents, that doesn't mean that they're likely to strike out entirely. They are in the mix for several other five-stars in the 2027 class such as Demarcus Henry and Adan Diggs, both of whom have spoken highly of BYU.
